Medicinsk epidemiologi
Forskargruppen medicinsk epidemiologi finns i Epihubben, en arbetsplats och nätverk för epidemiologisk forksning inom Vetenskapsområdet medicin och farmaci, med lokaler i MTC-huset, Dag Hammarskjölds väg 14B (karta). Här samlas forskare från olika institutioner som ägnar sig åt epidemiologisk forskning. Ambitionen är att över forskargruppsgränserna utbyta erfarenheter och inspirera till nya forskningsprojekt och tillsammans bygga en långsiktig grund för avancerad epidemiologisk forskning.

Vårt huvudsakliga forskningsområde omfattar sjukdomar och tillstånd i den åldrande befolkningen, inklusive fragilitetsfrakturer, hjärt-kärlsjukdom och cancer, men vi är även involverade i andra epidemiologiska forskningsområden. Vi kombinerar traditionella epidemiologiska metoder med moderna metoder från området kausal inferens och applicerar dessa på observationsstuder. Vi utför även randomiserade interventionsstudier. SIMPLER
Karl Michaëlsson, forskargruppsledare för Medicinsk epidemiologi, är också föreståndare för den nationella infrastrukturen SIMPLER, Swedish Infrastructure for Medical Population-Based Life-Course and Environmental Research (simpler4health.se). Mycket av vår forskning baseras på kohorterna som ingår i SIMPLER. Sedan slutet av 2018 leds SIMPLER av ett konsortium bestående av Uppsala universitet, Karolinska institutet, Chalmers tekniska högskola och Örebro universitet, i samarbete med Region Uppsala, Västmanland och Örebro.
Infrastrukturen har till uppgift att förse nationella och internationella forskare med material för forskning om hur kost- och livsstilsfaktorer men också genetik påverkar vår hälsa under framför allt den senare delen av livet. Kunskapen kan användas för att till exempel utveckla råd och rekommendationer om kost och livsstil, utveckla nya markörer för att enklare och effektivare diagnostisera kroniska sjukdomar och dess förstadier och utveckla nya individanpassade behandlingsmetoder.
Finansiering
Forskargruppen har fått finansiering från Vetenskapsrådet, Forte, Hjärt-lungfonden, Cancerfonden, Hjärnfonden och ALF.

Kurser och seminarier
Vi ger två årliga kurser på forskarnivå i medicinsk epidemiologi: en på grundläggande nivå (Introduction to epidemiology, 1,5 hp, kursansvarig Hannah Brooke) och en på intermediär till avancerad nivå (Medical epidemiology, 1,5 hp, kursansvarig Liisa Byberg). Med John Baron som huvudlärare erbjuder vi även ytterligare en kurs med inriktning mot klinisk epidemiologi och kliniska prövningar (Clinical Trials Epidemiology, kursansvarig Liisa Byberg). Vi anordnar en seminarieserie dit doktorander vid Uppsala universitet är välkomna att diskutera epidemiologisk metod. Deltagande i 10 seminarier ger 1 hp. Mer information och schema för seminarieserien hittar du här (informationen finns endast på engelska).
Nätverk
Vi administrerar ett multidisciplinärt nätverk bestående av epidemiologer vid Uppsala universitet. Nätverket för seniora forskare är för närvarande aktivt endast i formen av en epostlista (du kan anmäla eller avanmäla dig till listan här).
